The Connecting People and Place Program
Connecting People and Place is an important component of water catchment care.
We all seem to know our postcode/zip code but do we truly know where we live geographically?
A water catchment area is a geographic location. Everybody lives in a water catchment place.
Water catchment care is best practice in land and water management by people.
Educating communities in water catchment care extends communal understanding about the natural processes of land and water, thus extending people's ability to cooperate in caring sustainably for their land and water.
Eco-Music and the "Connecting People and Place Program" is a medium for the human community to become water catchment literate through Arts and Education.
Any Water Catchment management plan which fails to address the educational needs of the human community will fail in the area of environmental sustainable management.
An education strategy for an entire water catchment human community needs planning and adequate resourcing to complement any on-ground works.
The message must have local familiarity. If people are unaware of how to care for their land and water and do not know how the drainage system works; then the job of sustainable water management is impossible
Reading and writing (i.e. literacy) has been practised for many years. Reading the landscape (water catchment literacy) requires similar educative effort. Public and universal education is required to sustain society and environment.
Ideas and Ideals behind ECO-Music
ECO-Music is based on the premise that the arts are crucial to sustainable environmental management, and that they provide a means of connecting the head (the knowledge to survive) with the heart (the desire to survive) to improve life's chances of survival on our world.
It is bringing together the artist and the scientist for the benefit of the community.
The promoters of ECO-Music contend that there is a woefully inadequate funding of the arts and education in environmental management compared with the resources expended on engineered solutions to environmental problems.
If ever the power of the arts to reach people's heads and hearts was in doubt, the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games must dispel those doubts. In it, the performing arts (the most ephemeral of all human artistic endeavours) gripped the whole world, conveying a statement about the higher levels of our soul's aspirations.
A survey conducted in conjunction with ECO-Music public performances, tends to suggest that people are environmentally aware and pro-active in their attitudes to sustainable environmental management practices
We are available to assist in facilitating water catchment care through our Connecting People and Place Program.
